Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is hopeful that Brazilian midfield duo Fernando and Fernandinho will be fit for City’s Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid on Tuesday night. Fernandinho was completely rested from the match day squad for Saturday’s 4-0 win over Stoke.

He is expected to be ok, Pellegrini also said that his compatriot Fernando, who opened the scoring against Stoke, will be checked after feeling pain in his knee, “The most important thing is the result but we need to play eight games in 30 days so it was important to make rotations,” he said.

“Fernando has a little pain in his knee but I think he will be okay for Tuesday. Yaya finished with a muscle injury so we will see with the doctor. It was a risk for Vincent (Kompany) to play two games in 72 hours. I think he will be okay for Tuesday – he worked this morning and he is not having any problems.”
