Barcelona manager Luis Enrique says that Neymar missing the Copa América for Brazil is “the best for everybody.” The CBF had tried to persuade the Spanish club to release the forward for both the Copa América in June and the Olympic games in August, but Barca will only release him for the latter.

After months of talks, Barcelona confirmed the arrangement on their website last week and Barca coach Luis Enrique says the decision is in everyone’s best interests, “It was a consensual decision between all parties,” he confirmed. “We all want what is best for the player.

“He wants to play for his country, which logical and normal. But in the end, we all agreed that this decision is best for everybody. It’s for the best for the player, the club and the Seleção.” Neymar played in the 2011 Copa América, the 2012 Olympic games, the 2013 Confederations Cup, the 2014 World Cup and the 2015 Copa América.

With his Barca form flagging, Barca have insisted that the player needs rest during pre-season. He will be able to play for Brazil in the Rio Olympics in August, his participation should not unduly affect his pre season training programme with his club.
