An important meeting is scheduled for this week within the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). Speculation surrounding the departure of Pia Sundhage, coach of the Women’s Seleção, has intensified.

Internal sources reveal that the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, is preparing to discuss the early termination of the contract of the Swedish technician, initially scheduled until the end of the Paris Olympic Games in 2024. This decision marks a step audacious on the part of the CBF, which seeks to restructure the team following its early elimination in the group stage of the last FIFA World Cup.

Among the names mentioned to take over the reins of the team, Arthur Elias emerges as a solid candidate for the CBF. His appointment as head of the main team is said to be based on his work at Corinthians. However, despite his prominent position, other serious candidates are also vying for the job.

Strategic restructuring and major changes

The changes in the landscape of Brazilian women’s football are in full swing. On Monday, the CBF announced a series of transformations within the national team. In addition to the imminent departure of Pia Sundhage, Jonas Urias, the coach of the Under-20 selection, has also been dismissed.

The moves follow earlier moves that had already removed women’s team coordinator Ana Lorena Marche, supervisor Mayara Bordin and under-20 team assistant Bia Vaz. This whirlwind of change reflects the CBF’s desire to completely revamp the approach and structure of Brazilian women’s football.
