Palmeiras is one of the great candidates to win the 2014 Copa Libertadores and its path begins in Buenos Aires against San Lorenzo. A debut that comes with several important absences, including that of Endrick, against a rival who promises to put up a fight despite being hit by a bad present in the Argentine tournament.

Seven of Verdão’s regular starters did not travel with the delegation that arrived in the capital of Argentina on Tuesday. Goalkeeper Weverton, full-backs Marcos Rocha and Mayke, defender Murilo, midfielders Zé Rafael and Raphael Veiga and Endrick stayed in Brazil.

The thing is that Palmeiras’ debut in the Libertadores comes in the middle of the definition of the Paulista Championship. They lost the first leg of the final against Santos 1-0, their first defeat after 20 unbeaten games, and will define the competition at the Allianz Parque next Sunday.

Rony, Breno Lopez and Lázaro could make up the offensive trident at the Nuevo Gasómetro stadium, with Marcelo Lomba between the three sticks and Vanderlan and Gustavo García as wingers for the last Brasileirão champion led by the Portuguese Abel Ferreira.

San Lorenzo, which won the only Libertadores in its history in 2014, has just lost 2-1 against Boca Juniors after starting the match with an advantage. El Ciclón no longer has a chance of reaching the quarterfinals of the Argentine League Cup.

One of the doubts is the Paraguayan striker Adam Bareiro, who ended up with a contracted injury against Boca, but they trust that he will be recovered to play from the start.

Time and history of San Lorenzo-Palmeiras

The match will start at 9:30 p.m. local time (same time in Brasilia) with refereeing by Venezuelan Jesús Valenzuela. In the same Group F are Independiente del Valle (Ecuador) and Liverpool (Uruguay) who will face each other tomorrow in Montevideo.

In history, Palmeiras and San Lorenzo faced each other four times, with two victories for each one, always obtained at home. The last precedent is from 2019, also for Libertadores, with a 1-0 victory for the Argentine team.
