Already in difficulty after PSG’s 3-2 defeat against Barça in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, Parisian coach Luis Enrique finds himself criticized this time for a controversial tactical choice: having started the young Brazilian defender Lucas Beraldo.

Having only arrived this winter from Grêmio, Beraldo had very little time to adapt to his new environment and the demands of Ligue 1. However, faced with the Barcelona offensive armada led by Lewandowski, Luis Enrique trusted him by placing him in the axis of defense alongside Marquinhos. A risky gamble that turned out to be a failure.

Overwhelmed by the speed of the European game, Beraldo made numerous placement and marking errors. He completely missed his match, notably leaving too much space behind him for Lewandowski, author of a double. His inexperience at this level was clearly detrimental to him.

Daniel Riolo criticizes the timing chosen by Luis Enrique to launch Beraldo

For Daniel Riolo, RMC Sport consultant, Luis Enrique immediately undermined the young Brazilian’s chances of success: “Beraldo arrives calmly and already finds himself starting against Barça, it’s much too early! He has never played at this level.” He believes that the Spanish coach should have given him time to adapt by making him start more gradually.
