The dream signing of Santos for next season is Atlético Nacional’s 31-year-old midfielder Alejandro Guerra.
As revealed by Lance! on Wednesday, Santos paused the other negotiations in the market to prioritize the transfer of the Venezuelan midfielder, operating at current Libertadores champions Atlético Nacional. Atlético Nacional leaders confirm the existence of an offer from a European club and claim that the contacts with Santos are paralyzed since the last proposal, which was rejected, before the end of the Libertadores this year. Atlético director Victor Marulanda said: “For now, there’s no offer from a Brazilian club for Guerra. The only contact we have is from a European club, that asked secrecy. We’re talking and seeing if the business would progress. With Santos there’s nothing, just another offer in the past.”
Santos knows that they can hardly compete with European and even Brazilian clubs. So they’re hurrying to solve the financial equation and seal the second signing for next season. Colombian winger Vladimír Hernández has already agreed to come to the club. The price set for Alejandro Guerra is approximately €2 million. Despite having the funds from the sale of Gabigol and the furtherance with Esporte Interativo, Santos are still trying to decrease the demands of the Colombians.
Another name that still appeals to the board of Santos is Andrés Ibargüen. The 24-year-old Atlético Nacional striker is on the radar and is discussed between the two boards, but it’s not treated with the same priority as Guerra. Clayson of Ponte Preta and Éverton Felipe of Sport were also offered, but the board have paused the negotiations because thet believe that the focus should be entirely dedicated to Alejandro Guerra.
