Even though he is going through a difficult period at club level, where he has failed to score for seven games in a row, 19-year-old Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa continues to be one of the important players in Brazil’s Olympic national team.
Gabigol trained in the starting lineup on Tuesday, and was maintained in the XI by coach Rogério Micale, who led the team’s training session on Wednesday at the Estádio Kléber Andrade. Two new faces in the starting XI would be Internacional midfielder Rodrigo Dourado, and Santos’ Thiago Maia. Both were called up for the first time to the Olympic squad. With an eye on the competition in Rio de Janeiro later this year, Brazil will face Nigeria on March 24 in Cariacica, Espírito Santo, and then takes on South Africa in Maceió on the 27th.
First-team in training: Éderson; Fabinho, Wallace, Rodrigo Caio, Douglas Santos; Rodrigo Dourado, Thiago Maia; Álisson, Felipe Anderson, Gabriel Jesus; Gabigol.
