Brazilian striker Luiz Adriano had travelled to China to complete his move to Jiangsu Sainty, but returned to Milan without signing the contract.
On 13 January, Luiz Adriano published on social networks a photo in front of a jet, next to his representatives, and a message that he’s going to play in China. After arriving to Nanjing, the player was received by fans at the airport and posed for pictures with the scarf of the club. It was a journey where he went through London and Hong Kong prior to the arrival at the team’s city. But everything went wrong at the last minute and a deal was officially cancelled. At the time of signing the contract with Jiangsu, several factors led the Brazilian to refuse the proposal.
In addition to the €15 million transfer fee to Milan, Jiangsu offered €8 million per-season to Luiz Adriano in a four-year contract. The Italian club didn’t think twice and agreed to sell the player, for whom they had paid just €8m in July 2015. He also accepted the proposal, traveled to London and then Hong Kong to get the work permit in the country, and passed a medical. When Luiz Adriano sat down with the club’s officers to sign the contract, he found that the value mentioned in the document was not exactly the same as agreed before the trip.
According to the agent Gilmar Veloz, the salary would be divided into three portions, and only one appeared in the contract. The rest would be paid through the player’s image rights. Although the situation is common in China and in Brazilian football, the final proposal did not please Luiz Adriano. Immediately, the attacker called his wife, Camila, in Porto Alegre and explained the situation. Camila advised her husband to opt to continue in Milan following this uncertainty in China. After living eight years in Donetsk, his wife also chose to stay in Milan instead of a new adventure in China.
