22-year-old striker Jonathan Calleri has been linked with Atlético Mineiro, São Paulo and also German side Borussia Dortmund in recent days.
The father of the player has told Globo Esporte that a decision on Calleri"s future should be announced on Tuesday. Calleri had his economic rights acquired by investors last week, for approximately €11 million, but the documentation of the purchase has not yet been fully completed. He doesn"t have a EU passport, and hence a move to Germany would be complicated, at this moment. The idea is that Calleri would play in a South American club until the summer, before moving permanently to Europe, most probably Inter Milan. The player"s father Guillermo Calleri said: “There is still no confirmation. We were very excited about the things they told us about São Paulo as well as Atletico-MG and a European club [Borussia Dortmund]. We should define it by tomorrow."
Initially, Atlético Mineiro had an advantage and came close to a deal, but São Paulo entered the race with a better proposal for a six-month loan. Even their coach Edgardo Bauza actively participates in the negotiations, having already spoken with the player on two occasions.
