After selling Jádson, Ralf and Renato Augusto to Chinese football, Corinthians are now on the verge of losing another player to the Asian country.
On Monday, the 2015 Brasileirão champions accepted the latest offer from Chinese club Shandong Luneng for 28-year-old defender Gil, and a transfer is expected to be confirmed in the coming days. Shandong Luneng are coached by former Corinthians manager Mano Menezes, and they will trigger the player’s €10 million release clause, according to Globo Esporte. Corinthians own 90% of the economic rights of Gil, while the rest is with French side Valenciennes, former club of the defender. A starter at the club since 2013, Gil played a total of 184 games, scoring seven goals and won three titles; Paulistão and Recopa Sudamericana in the year of his arrival, and the Brazilian Championship last season. Before Gil, Jadson was sold to Tianjin Songjiang, while Renato Augusto and Ralf left for Beijing Guoan. The other players who left the club were Vágner Love, sold to Monaco, and Edu Dracena, now at Palmeiras.
Joseph Lee, representative of Shandong Luneng in Brazil, told Lance!: “We cannot treat this deal as closed before signing the contract, but the proposal was accepted. I mean, the conversations were good, but before putting it on paper, we cannot say that it is closed. Everything is sent, the missing details are small. About values, you have to ask Corinthians.”
