Shakhtar goes on tour across Brazil

Brazilian clubs Flamengo and Cruzeiro will be Shakhtar’s Granada Cup opponents. Brazilian clubs Flamengo and Cruzeiro will be Shakhtar’s Granada Cup opponents. Friendly games have been scheduled against the teams of Bahia, Atletico Mineiro and Internacional.

 

The matches will be held in Brazil’s four cities: Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre and Brasilia. 

Fixture schedule:

January 16: Shakhtar vs Bahia, Salvador

January 18: Shakhtar vs Flamengo, Granada Cup, Brasilia

January 21: Shakhtar vs Atletico Mineiro, Belo Horizonte

January 23: Shakhtar vs Internacional, Porto Alegre

January 25: Shakhtar vs Cruzeiro, Granada Cup, Brasilia

– This is an important step in the history of our club development. For the first time Shakhtar will play in Brazil – the country which is represented in our team by a large group of top players. I am sure that the upcoming meetings will attract a lot of interest from our supporters. The club plans to organise broadcasts of all five matches, – stated the FC Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin.

And for Shakhtar, the trip to the South American continent stands for the international image, the club status, the new fans. Besides, our Brazilian footballers will be playing in front of their supporters, which is also very important. The tour to Brazil is part of the history of our club, – said the head coach of Shakhtar Mircea Lucescu.

13 Brazilian footballers play for Shakhtar: Ismaily, Marcio Azevedo, Alex Teixeira, Douglas Costa, Bernard, Fernando, Fred, Marlos, Dentinho, Taison, Ilsinho, Wellington Nem and Luiz Adriano. Five of them are the current players of the national team of Brazil. Fernandinho and Willian, who now play for the Selecao on a regular basis, used to defend the Donetsk team’s colours for a long time.

The assistant head coach of the Pitmen is a former Brazil defender Antonio Carlos Zago.
