Lucas Leiva has given his biggest hint yet at the prospect of leaving Liverpool.

The Brazilian midfielder has been at the Merseyside club since 2007 but has found first team opportunities limited in recent weeks.

There has been much speculation over whether Lucas will stay at Liverpool this January. He has been linked with his old team Grêmio and although it looks unlikely to happen this year Lucas was not ruling anything out in the near future.

“It will not happen now. But in the future, who knows. It is difficult to say what will happen in football. (Going back to Brazil) is something I’ve been wanting, but it will greatly depend on the moment of my career, how I’m feeling. There is strong speculation about me going back to Grêmio, but in respect to the fans, I say that it will not happen in this window. I believe that is not the best time for both parties.”
