CSKA Moscow defender Mario Fernandes has discussed why he rejected a Brazil call-up back in 2011 and expressed his gratitude at earning a second chance from new head coach Dunga.

Fernanes was called up for a clash with Argentina in 2011 in a squad only featuring domestic players.

However, then Gremio player, the 24-year-old turned down the call and cited personal reasons.

The defender was quoted by Goal.com recently, and talked about how his attitude towards football has changed over the past few seasons.

Fernandes, who is now an evangelical Christian, said: "I"ve changed a lot, and it is thanks to God.

"When I played at Gremio, my attitude was not always right. I wanted to go out and party.

"I could play, but I was not happy. When I went to Russia [in 2012], I found God.

"He has honored me greatly, even more now by my return to the Brazilian national team."
