Fiorentina are interested in Corinthians-owned forward Alexandre Pato, according to reports.

Italian newspaper La Nazione claims that the 25 year-old, who has scored nine goals in 22 appearances whilst on loan at São Paulo this season, is being considered for the January transfer window.

Fiorentina Head Coach Vincenzo Montella has been left desperately short of attacking options, with Giuseppe Rossi and Mario Gómez out injured.

The 40 year-old tactician currently only has Mounir El Hamdaoui and youngsters Khouma Babacar and Federico Bernardeschi available to him.

With Rossi expected to be unavailable for an extended period of time, a move for Pato – a forward who scored regularly for Milan in Serie A – looks increasingly likely.

One potential stumbling block for the deal, however, is São Paulo’s reported desire to turn Pato’s loan spell into a permanent transfer.

The Tricolor intimated earlier this month that they were keen to retain the Brazil international, though whether he is open to the idea is currently unclear.
