Spain striker Diego Costa says he remains unfazed by any booing he might experience during the World Cup as he feels supporters have as much right as he does in voicing their opinions on who he represents.

The Atletico Madrid forward, who is on the verge of a move to Chelsea in England, chose not to play for the country of his birth and knows that the decision may anger some: “Just as I had the right to choose, they also have a right to do what they want.”

“They have the option to boo or not. I was aware that it could happen. I am calm and I am proud to play for Spain and in no moment have I doubted my choice.”

Costa made his World Cup debut in Spain’s disastrous 5-1 humbling at the hands of Netherlands on Sunday and will be hoping for a shot at redemption when his team face Chile on Wednesday evening at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.
