Former Argentina international Osvaldo Ardiles has admitted he is surprised Carlos Tevez has not been selected for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The former Corinthians forward has had an excellent campaign at Juventus – he’s scored 19 goals in 34 appearances – but has been surprisingly overlooked by Head Coach Alejandro Sabella.

"It’s true that I was expecting Tevez to be called up," he told FIFA.com. "He would have brought something different to the squad, but it’s the Coach [Sabella] who has to decide."

Ardilies also commented on the inclusion of Manchester City defender Martín Demichelis, who he believes could be vital to Argentina"s chances of winning the tournament.

"I won’t pretend we don’t have problems in defence, which is why I think it’s excellent that Martín Demichelis has been brought in to give the back-line some much-needed experience," continued the 61 year-old.

"I hope we can give a strong, united performance because victory only results from everyone playing together. That is what we have to expect from them."
