In an exclusive interview with Goal, the Brazilian centre-back has spoken about his hopes for this year’s World Cup as well as his admiration for his international colleagues.

Brazil will host the World Cup for the first time since 1950, when the home side suffered a shock defeat in the final at the hands of neighbours Uruguay.

This time around, Dante knows exactly what is required of the Seleção and is determined to achieve what he sees as the only acceptable outcome.

“We want to win the tournament. There is no point in just saying we want to play well,” said the 30-year-old.

“It’s a World Cup in our own country. Our target is to win the Cup.”

“So far we are on a good run, under the new manager Scolari. I’ve been a constant member of his squad. I have tried hard to win his trust and do well in the friendlies.”

“If I keep my form with Bayern I will be able to secure my place, but it’s not confirmed yet.”

Dante is not expected to start for Brazil at this year’s World Cup, with the centre-back berths likely to be filled by PSG and Brazil captain Thiago Silva and Chelsea stalwart David Luiz.

The Bayern Munich man was full of praise for his international team-mates and is excited at the prospect of working with them this summer.

“Thiago Silva does a great job, he is one of the best defenders on the world.”

“I have played with both him and David Luiz and I am looking forward to being in the squad. Then let’s see what the manager’s decision is,” he completed.
