Atlético de Madrid defender João Miranda has praised manager Diego Simeone.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s Copa del Rey tie against Real Madrid, the Brazil international has hailed the way Simeone’s improved Atlético defensively and believes his work with the back line will help them when facing an attack as strong as Real’s.
“Simeone changed the way we defend,” he said, as reported by AS. “Before we only defended with four or five players.
“These are the kinds of games that motivate a defender.
“You want to face the best attackers in the world and they have many of them.
“You can’t lose sight of them for a single moment, from the first minute to the 93rd or 94th, until the referee blows his whistle.
“They have the ability to surprise in an instant and we can’t afford to let them score.”
