Vasco da Gama President Roberto Dinamite has confirmed that Juninho Pernambucano is retiring.

The 39 year-old, who joined Vasco for the third time in his career last July, made his final appearance in a 4-0 victory against Audax.

“I want to make the decision of Juninho Pernambucano official. During the week we already talked about it and he decided to call an end to his career," said Dinamite, as reported by Sports Mole.

“On Monday, Juninho will make his farewell as an athlete of Vasco. He will give a press conference and journalists will be able to ask whatever they want."

Juninho, who was capped 40 times by Brazil, is best known in Europe for his time with Lyon. He spent eight seasons with the Ligue 1 side, winning the title in seven of them.

With Vasco, he won the Brasileirão twice [1997 and 2000], as well as the Copa Libertadores [1998].
