Barcelona striker Neymar will receive more money than Cristiano Ronaldo this year, according to esportes.terra.com. This is allegedly down to the fact that the Brazilian will rake in a healthy bonus just for signing for the Catalan club last summer.

The sports website has announced that the 21 year-old Neymar’s salary is €9.18 million per year (or €176,000 per week), compared the the Ballon D’or winner Ronaldo’s €17 million ( €327,000 per week).

Despite the chasm in wages between the pair, a bonus given to Neymar upon joining Barca of €8.5 million takes his earnings from the season to €17.68, as opposed to the Portuguese’s €17 million.

Real Madrid’s talisman is likely to make a few Euros from sponsorships and prize money, but then again so is Neymar. It will be interesting to assess the final outcomes of both players’ total incomes at the end of the season- you can be sure Sambafoot will be providing the relevant information.

All this comes at a time when Neymar’s entire transfer to Barcelona is under a great deal of scrutiny regarding its legality and an investigation into the move from several parties is ongoing.
