World Cup winner and once the best player in the world, Rivaldo, has launched a scathing attack on his home nation’s ability to host this summer’s tournament and insists the money would be better spent on improving and upgrading facilities that need money the most.

Speaking after playing for Mogi Mirim lost 4-0 to Sao Paulo in the State Championships, the 41 year-old, when questioned about the latest stadium drama surrounding the hosts, just said: “We knew this would happen.”

In addition, Rivaldo went on to opine that other aspects of Brazilian life could benefit more from the millions spent on the World Cup: “Brazil has alot to do like school, health and prison, not soccer fields for the World Cup taking so much money for one month.”

Former Barcelona, Milan and Palmeiras playmaker Rivaldo won a host of trophies and paudits in a glittering career, including the Champions League and of course the World Cup with Brazil in Japan and South Korea in 2002.
