Fluminense earned themselves an opening three points in the Carioca championship, earning a 2-0 win over Nova Iguaçu at the São Januario.

A much-changed Tricolor side struggled to deal with a poor playing surface for much of the game, but the introduction of first-team regular Wagner changed proceedings as the attacking-midfielder picked up two goals.

In the other major fixture of Sunday evening, Botafogo ran out comfortable 3-0 victory against a disappointing Duque de Caxias side.

Goals from Antônio Carlos, debutant Bolivar and Andrezinho secured the win, with Under-20 World Cup winner Henrique and defender Rodrigo Defendi also among the scorers
