Grêmio have crashed out of the Copa Sudamericana after a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Colombians Millionarios in Bogotá.

The Brazilians had taken a 1-0 lead into the game after a Marco Antônio goal secured the win in Porto Alegre and doubled the lead early in the first half thanks to Werley.

But the Colombians launched a comeback with Wilberto Cosme scoring Millionarios’ first goal of the night.

Grêmio had looked to hold on to the slim lead with ten minutes to go but a Wason Rentería double, including a penalty deep into injury time, in the dying stages of the match secured passage into the semi-finals for Millionarios.

Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s side will now be turning their attention back to the Brasileirão and securing a place in next season’s Copa Libertadores.

Grêmio are currently second in the league with three games left to play as they travel to face Portuguesa on Sunday.
