Grêmio boss Vanderlei Luxemburgo bemoaned their bad luck after crashing out of the Copa Sudamericana as they were beaten 3-2 on aggregate by Millionarios.

The Brazilians suffered a blow early on as Kleber was forced to leave the pitch after an ankle injury and were left fuming after a controversial penalty in injury time gave the Colombians the victory.

Luxemburgo told reporters: “We had a very good first half to about 10 minutes towards the end. But we were weary, we travelled so far, because in the second half we lacked the energy to work the ball, we misplaced many passes.

“We had Kleber’s injury, who turned his ankle again. I had to make a substitution we didn’t want to make. We accept that Millionarios have won, it’s regrettable, but we are not finished. We are hurting, but life goes on.

“I will not put the blame on refereeing. Whether it was a penalty or not, I do not know. But we should have won at 1-0. I thought we should’ve defended more. The way it happened is painful.”
