Neymar, 20, has scored 17 goals in his first 26 international appearances for Brazil, but Alves believes that the Santos forward still needs to add various facets to his game that he will only learn upon leaving Brazil.

“The only difference between these two great players is that Messi is in Europe and Neymar is in Brazil,” Alves told Le Buteur magazine in Algeria.

“He and Ganso are two great players but they still lack tactical discipline, maturity and responsibility to know that they are important in a team.

“Neymar needs to come to Europe, preferably to Barcelona. He still needs a footballing education.”

Neymar, himself, has insisted that he will only leave Brazil after the 2014 World Cup, which is to be played in his homeland. However, he is coming under ever increasing pressure to move on ahead of the tournament and develop his game.
