However, the former-Manchester United full-back has kicked up a fuss with his description of Chelsea defender David Luiz’s playing style during Sunday’s encounter with Liverpool.

Neville described the gung-ho charges of the Seleção defender as being as if he was “controlled by a 10-year-old in the crowd on a Playstation.”

David Luiz has faced a lot of criticism in recent months, following an initial bright start in the Premier League, having been caught-out in his positioning on several occasions and conceded three penalties in his short time in England.

Despite almost universal criticism of the defender’s display today, manager André Villas Boas was in no mood for Neville’s comments, dismissing them as stupid and ridiculous.

“It is his opinion, but it is a stupid approach to an opinion,” said the 33-year-old Portuguese tactician. “I respect Gary Neville, but that is just ridiculous.”
