The Paulista club went a goal behind when Leonardro Silva’s diving header fired Atletico Mineiro in to the lead in the fifty fifth minute.

However, fifteen minutes from time, Corinthians grabed a goal back when former Portuguese international, Liedson, headed home the equaliser to send the Timao fans in to full voice.

Having come off the bench half way through the second half, it was Adriano who managed to net the winner in the eighty eighth minute. A left-footed strike from inside the Atletico Mineiro area gave Corinthians the 2-1 victory, sending them two points ahead of Vasco at the top of the table, with just two rounds remaining in the league.

Speaking to the press after the Corinthians 2-1 victory, Adriano expressed his happiness at finally finding the back of the net.

”That goal was really important to me,’’ the twenty nine year old said.

”Scoring a goal like that is impossible to explain. God always put’s some obstacles in my life and I’ve managed to over come them. I have to thank the group for this, as well as the directors and the supporters who have been to patient towards me. I hope I can keep working to help the team.”
