Striker Yuri Tanque is having a special year in 2023. The Brazilian is the top scorer for Jeju United in the K-League 1, South Korea’s first division, the sixth player with the most goals in the entire league, and the third Brazilian. Not only that, but he is also competing for the best center forward in the K-League and the squad of the best players in the championship.

At 25 years old, Yuri agreed to go to Jeju United in January this year for the challenge of playing for the second time on Asian soil, but this time in Korea. Since then, he has played 37 games for the club from the city of Jeju, with 11 goals scored and four assists. Also recently, he reached the mark of 50 games in Asia and this Saturday he equaled the number of games of the 2022 season, being the two that most worked in his career.

Even before that, the young striker gained recognition from Guarani fans, by guiding the team from the relegation zone to tenth place in Series B of the Brazilian Championship. This happened in 2022, when the center forward contributed with seven goals and two assists in 17 games for Bugre. In one of them, he took off his boots to climb onto the club’s shield located between the field and the stands at the Brinco de Ouro stadium.

In Minas Gerais, Yuri played in the youth categories of Cruzeiro, from 10 to 12 years old, and Atlético-MG, between the under-15 and under-17 categories. Through Raposa, he traveled from Nova Era to Belo Horizonte to train, on a journey that took approximately two and a half hours to go and another two and a half hours to return.

As the club needed the athlete to move to Belo Horizonte, and Yuri was unable to do so, he ended up leaving Cruzeiro when he was still just a boy. As for Galo, he participated in training with the professional team in 2013, alongside the Copa Libertadores champion squad, which included names such as Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Jô, Bernard, Diego Tardelli and company.

As a professional, Tanque has spent time at clubs such as Ponte Preta, Coimbra, Ganiare Tottori (Japan), Ferroviária, Leixões (Portugal) and Capivariano. In the last one, he was the top scorer in Series A3 of the 2022 Campeonato Paulista and chosen to join the selection of the best eleven in the competition.
