Mancini, who left Atlético de Goias, signed a contract until December 2021 and will replace Dyego Coelho, who was as interim coach after the departure of Tiago Nunes.

The new 53-year-old coach, ex-footballer and who has a broad resume on the Brazilian benches, has already managed, among others, Santos, Botafogo and Sao Paulo, the latter team with which he won the Copa do Brasil in 2005 .

Mancini was also chosen by the Chapecoense board to rebuild the team after most of its footballers lost their lives in a plane crash back in 2016.

The team had traveled to Colombia to play the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final against Atlético Nacional.

In case of getting his contract regularized on time, Mancini will debut next Wednesday in Corinthians’ match against Atlético Paranaense for the sixteenth round of the Brazilian Championship.

The Sao Paulo team is in seventeenth position in the championship, with 15 points, after losing 2-1 to Ceará this Sunday.

Mancini will have 23 league games to recover the team, which also plays the Copa do Brasil and will face América de Minas Gerais in the round of 16.

Hired by Corinthians to try to save the team from relegation to Serie BVagner Mancini takes charge of his 13th season in the Serie A.

Corinthians have so far struggled in the Brazilian Championship and are in need of a good run of results soon. So far, Timão have only won three games from 15 and find themselves languishing in 17th place, two points shy of the relegation zone.

Mancini is expected to bring that much needed change after his appointment.
