Palmeiras will start their adventure in the 2024 Copa Libertadores this Wednesday with a tough match against San Lorenzo de Almagro. The team led by Abel Ferreira, who achieved back-to-back titles in 2020 and 2021, will seek to win their third star this year.

However, despite “only” having two Libertadores in his personal record, the Portuguese coach of Verdão, Abel Ferreira, far surpasses several of his counterparts in the dugouts, especially the Argentine coaches.

Abel Ferreira has more continental trophies than the 13 Argentine coaches in the Copa Libertadores group stage.

Journalist Paulo Cobos of ESPN Brazil highlights in his most recent column a spectacular fact about Abel Ferreira in this Copa Libertadores group stage, which is that the Portuguese coach has the most continental trophies in his record.

Of the 13 Argentine coaches who will lead their teams, only Miguel Ángel Russo, currently coaching Rosario Central, has a Copa Libertadores to his name, which he won in 2007 coaching Boca Juniors. The remaining 12 have not been able to touch the metal of the heavy, yet historic, CONMEBOL Libertadores Cup.

“If the Argentines are quantity, Abel Ferreira is quality,” assures this journalist from the aforementioned source.

Now, when it comes to Brazilians, Ferreira also has a great advantage over Fernando Diniz, Tite, and Renato Gaúcho, as these three strategists have only one Copa Libertadores in their respective showcases.
