Two world champion teams are going to face each other and that is always news. But even more so when it is a match for good causes such as Brazil against Spain, which will be played on March 26 at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in Madrid.

The federations of the two countries had agreed that they would meet on the FIFA date in March, but had not given a precise date. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) revealed the mystery by confirming for the 26th at 9 p.m. local time (5 p.m. Brasilia time).

The meeting “will serve to reinforce the commitment against violence and racism in football and will intensify the good relations between both national governing bodies, constituting a great football festival between two of the most powerful teams on the international scene,” confirmed the RFEF.

One of the reasons for this is to combat what happened to Vinicius Junior in May, when he was subjected to racist insults in a duel between Real Madrid away in Valencia. This caused outrage on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, in addition to the opening of an investigation in Spain.

It was not the only incident that the winger suffered: four Atlético de Madrid supporters are being tried for simulating the hanging of a Vini doll on a bridge in the Spanish capital. The Prosecutor’s Office requested four years in prison for them.

Dorival’s background and debut

March will be the tenth meeting between the Spanish and Brazilian national teams, with the last precedent being a 3-0 victory for the Seleção in the final of the Confederations Cup in 2013. Of the nine previous duels, Spain achieved two victories and two draws, with eight goals for and fourteen against.

On that FIFA date, Dorival Júnior’s official debut as coach of Brazil will also take place. Announced in the position last week, his main objective will be the Copa América in the middle of the year and overcoming the results in the Qualifiers.
