Palmeiras needed only one half to claim all three points against Bahia as they eased to yet another win in the Brazilian Championship. Verdão defeated Bahia by a 3-0 score-line on Saturday afternoon at Alianz Parque and all of their goals came in the first half.

It is back to winning ways for Palmeiras after a draw against Santos last week and it continues a terrible run for Bahia which leaves them without a win in their last four games.

Bahia made the first threat of the game when Gilberto forced a save off Weverton even before the first minute of the game.

However, it was Palmeiras that made the early mark with a goal in the sixth minute after Willian saw a deflected ball via a cross and tapped in to open the scoring.

In the 36th minute, Palmeiras doubled their lead when Mayke was brought down in the area and Veiga stepped up to score the resulting penalty. Two minutes before the break, Palmeiras made it three and this time Roni scored from a composed finish inside the box.

The second half still saw Palmeiras dominate proceedings but there was to be no more goals on the evening.

With the victory, Palmeiras are up to 41 points and still maintain a push for the top spots of the Brazilian Championship. However, they remain nine points behind table-toppers São Paulo. Bahia are at a lowly 28 points and are only just four points above the relegation zone.

For their next outings, Palmeiras take on Libertad at home for the second leg of the quarter-finals of the Libertadores while Bahia look to overturn their deficit when they take on Defensia y Justicia for the second leg of the Copa Sudamericanna.
