Atlético-MG had to battle it out against Athletico-PR on Saturday as they managed to claim a 1-0 win at the Arena da Baixada. The game was valid for the 25th round of the Brazilian Championship. The result sees Atletico-MG return to winning ways after a draw with Internacional last week while Athletico have a different story as they have now suffered their third consecutive defeat in the Brazilian Championship.

Despite missing a penalty in the 32nd minute of the first half, Keno was fairly impressive in the match and was the one who set up Vargas who scored an impressive solo goal on the evening. That goal would go on to be the match winner in the 44th minute.

It was a game lacking many clear-cut chances and goal-scoring attempts in general. Athletico goalkeeper Santos hit a special milestone with 200 games for the club but sadly for him, it ended in a defeat for his side.

With that result, Atlético-MG are still firmly in the chase for the Brasileirão title and can go one point behind top spot in the event that São Paulo loses.

Athletico-PR, on the other hand, had another poor outing and now finds themselves just four points above the relegation zone.

Atlético-MG remains in second place with 46 points and four behind São Paulo who are yet to play against Corinthians (the game will be on Sunday). Athletico are in a lowly 13th position with 28 points but they can still be leap-frogged by Bahia and Atlético-GO.

For their next outing, Athletico will take on Bragantino next Sunday while there is all to play for when Atlético-MG travel to Morumbi to take on top-of-the-table São Paulo FC.
