The legion of Brazilians in the Premier League could gain a new member in the middle of this year, when the transfer window opens. That’s because Newcastle and Everton are considering signing Giovani, 19, who has a contract with Palmeiras until December 2026.

The club’s leadership decided to renew the young striker’s contract in January last year, when he turned 18. At the start of the season, the player established himself as one of the main options on the bench, being used by Abel Ferreira in 10 matches: one goal and two assists.

Future away from Palmeiras?

Verdão has not received official offers from Newcastle and Everton, but the clubs are aware that they need to pay an amount close to the value of the termination fine: 60 million euros (R$ 344 million at current quotations). Information about the interest of the English teams was released by “ESPN”.

In January last year, Ajax contacted Palmeiras to obtain information about Giovani, including sending an offer of 12 million euros (about R$ 71 million at the time). The São Paulo team, in turn, did not even accept the proposal and announced that it would not continue the negotiation.

The number 17 shirt is one of Abel Ferreira’s weapons in the dispute for the Campeonato Paulista title. Palmeiras faces Água Santa for the first match of the decision on April 2, while the return is scheduled for the 9th.
