At 38 years old, Filipe Luís announced his retirement from professional football. The Brazilian full-back, however, will continue to be linked to the activity: his next step will be as a coach, a role that he wants to occupy thanks to Diego Simeone’s influence on his career.

Filipe Luís’ connection with Simeone

The Brazilian’s mention of the Argentine strategist is no coincidence. Filipe Luís was a fundamental piece for Cholo in the Madrid team, where they coincided for eight seasons and won league titles, Copa del Rey, Europa League and European Super Cup.

In fact, the left back decided to return to Colchonero after just one year at Chelsea just to be under Simeone’s command again, even if it cost him a salary adjustment. It remains to be seen where he will have his first experiences, but there is no doubt that in his way of working there is inspiration from the current Atleti helmsman.
