This Sunday (18), Corinthians reinforced their dominance in Brazilian women’s football by defeating Cruzeiro 1-0 and winning the Brazilian Women’s Supercup for the third time.

Corinthians’ title-winning goal was scored by Duda Sampaio in the first half, in a match held at the Neo Química Arena.

First title without Arthur Elias

This is Brabas’ first title without coach Arthur Elias, who left Corinthians at the end of 2023 to take over the Brazilian Women’s National Team.

To reach the Brazilian Women’s Supercup final, Timão overcame Internacional and Ferroviária in previous matches.

How was the game?

In the first half, Cruzeiro took the lead with a goal, but VAR intervened and identified an offside, resulting in the annulment of the goal.

Cabulosas showed danger on counterattacks, but Corinthians struck with a goal early in the second minute of the second half, courtesy of Duda Sampaio. Brabas even hit the crossbar with a shot from Gabi Portilho.

Close to the final whistle, Byanca Brasil from Cruzeiro managed to equalize, but the officials disallowed the goal for a handball.

VAR in action

Cruzeiro had a chance to open the scoring six minutes into the game. In a quick counterattack, Byanca Brasil managed to penetrate Corinthians’ defense and scored against Brabas. However, after VAR intervention, an offside was found at the start of the play, invalidating the goal.

Near the end of the match, Byanca Brasil made a great play in Corinthians’ area, drawing level and fueling the possibility of taking the decision to penalties.

However, VAR suggested a review by referee Deborah Cecília Cruz Correia. After reviewing the replay, the referee identified a handball by the Cruzeiro player, resulting in the annulment of Raposa’s goal.

With the victory, Corinthians achieved a three-time championship in the Brazilian Women’s Supercup

Brabas have won all editions of the competition since its inception in 2022, with the São Paulo team defeating Grêmio in the inaugural final.

Last year, Corinthians defeated Flamengo and lifted the trophy once again at the Neo Química Arena.
