Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson says that his childhood was mainly focused on training with no time for a social life.

The Brazilian came through the ranks at Sao Paulo, before joining Benfica and then Manchester City.

He told ESPN Brasil that training as a child was time consuming, “It was a great sacrifice. When I was training in the morning in São Paulo, my father left home at five in the morning to go to work and I went out with him to go to train.

“I took two buses, plus the club bus and the same thing to return. Often, when I returned from training, I didn't have time for lunch, because I had to go straight to school.

“My routine was this: training-school or school-training. I came home from school to have dinner and sleep, because the next day I was going to repeat everything.”

As a goalkeeper at Sao Paulo, Ederson says that his hero and mentor would become obvious.

“From the moment I went in goal, I started to follow Rogério Ceni. Since then, he has become my inspiration and my idol.”
