Liverpool forward Sadio Mane joked that he convinced Roberto Firmino to declare himself fit for Tuesday night’s Champions League tie against PSG- because he doesn’t need his eye.
Firmino looked set to miss out after getting a sickening jab in the eye during Saturday’s 2-1 win at Spurs. The Brazilian was originally ruled out of the PSG match.
However, Firmino declared himself fit on the morning of the game and came off the bench to hit a stoppage time winner in the Reds’ 3-2 win.
According to Mane, Liverpool fans have him to thank, partially at least, “I think Bobby doesn’t need his eye to play so I told him,” said Mane.
“I sent him a message on Monday saying, ‘Hey Bobby, come on, we need you’. You’ve all seen the ‘no look’ goals so I think he doesn’t need his eye to play. I texted him saying, ‘You don’t need your eye’.”
