Lucas Leiva has arrived in Rome to complete a permanent move to Serie A club Lazio. Liverpool accepted an offer of around £5m for the 30 year old last week and left it to the player to decide whether to accept the move.

The Reds flew to Hong Kong on Saturday and asked that the Brazilian make his decision before deciding whether to fly out with the squad to Hong Kong. Lucas was pictured at Rome airport on Sunday wearing a Lazio scarf.

Lucas joined Liverpool from Grêmio in 2007, he had 1 year left to run on his contract. Last summer he very nearly went to Turkey and he was heavily linked with loan moves to Inter and AC Milan in January.

Lucas fell out of favour after the signing of Emre Can and has been used mostly as a deputy centre half since Jurgen Klopp joined the club in November 2015.

Lazio’s Bosnian midfielder Senad Lulic, who has spent seven seasons with Lazio, hailed the move, “Lucas Leiva is a great player with a lot of experience,” he said.

“We have so many young players here that we need someone like him. We await him with open arms and hope he arrives soon.”
