Brazil striker Gabriel Jesús has spoken of his pride to be wearing the number 9 shirt for his country. The 19 year old has enjoyed a breakout season, securing a £32m move to Manchester City, winning Olympic gold with Brazil in August and now scoring 5 goals in his first 6 full internationals for the Seleção.
Jesús will join Manchester City in January and is likely to join a league champion as well, with Palmeiras leading the Brasileirão table with four games left. “I did not think all of this would happen,” he told Globo.
“I have a lot of faith in God and I know my work. I’m working hard, things are flowing and I am getting opportunities. I have been working quietly, quietly, wanting to help my teammates, to help Brazil.
“For Brazil, many quality players have worn number 9, so I am very proud of myself, wearing this sacred shirt and I try to honour it on the field.” Jesús helped himself to a goal and an assist in Lima on Tuesday night as Brazil beat Peru 2-0.
