The Brazilian Football Confederation has confirmed that the national team selection of coach Tite, which was supposed to take place on Monday, was postponed to August 22.
The list to be announced is for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Colombia on September 1 and 6, respectively. According to a statement published on the official website of the organization, the decision was made “in agreement between the board of the CBF and the technical committees of the senior national team and the Olympic team.” Despite the change in the date of the first call up of newly appointed coach Tite, CBF did not mention a possible agreement with FIFA on the subject. CBF also made it clear that, at this point, all are concentrated in the Olympic football tournament, where Brazil seeks an unprecedented Gold medal. On Wednesday, the team faces Honduras in the semi-final of the competition. Brazil are ranked sixth in the table of the CONMEBOL qualifiers with nine points. The top four nations will be guaranteed a direct spot in the 2018 World Cup, while the team that finishes fifth should overcome a team from Oceania in the playoffs.
