On the afternoon of Thursday, through agent Eduardo Uram, Cuca informed Fluminense president Peter Siemsen and director Jorge Macedo that he’s ended the negotiations to become the team’s new coach.
According to Globo Esporte, the 2013 Copa Libertadores winning coach was the main option of Fluminense to replace Eduardo Baptista, but following the negative response, the Rio based side are expected to intensify talks to reach an agreement with Levir Culpi. Cuca decided to end the negotiations after understanding that the club are also in talks with Levir Culpi, and was dissatisfied with this. As mentioned in Bate Pronto of Yahoo Brasil, Fluminense were reportedly willing to offer Cuca a monthly salary of €170,000 and now the coach is eyeing the situation of Marcelo Oliveira at Palmeiras. Cuca believes that he can be invited to take over at Verdão if the Palmeiras coach is sacked. On the other hand, negotiations are going on between Levir, agent Juliano D’Avila and Fluminense director Jorge Macedo. The club would be close to an agreement to appoint the former Galo boss, with monthly wages of €96,000 being proposed.
