Grêmio recovered from an opening day defeat in Mexico with a thrashing win in their first Copa Libertadores home game on Wednesday.
The Porto Alegre side dominated from the first minute and thrashed Ecuadorian club LDU 4-0. Coach Roger Machado handed marquee signing Miller Bolaños a start against his former club, and the attacker who came to Brazil with lots of expectations, marked his debut with a goal. Maicon gave the home side an early lead, scoring after 11 minutes, before Bolaños doubled the advantage in the 36th. Henrique Almeida made it 3-0 eight minutes from time, and Éverton completed the scoresheet in the last minute.
With three points and a goal difference better than LDU, who had defeated San Lorenzo 2-0 on Match-day 1, Grêmio are placed second in Group 6, behind Mexican team Toluca [4 points]. The victory will be a big boost for the team ahead of their Porto Alegre derby against Internacional which takes place this Sunday at the Grêmio Arena.
