Neymar and Barcelona still have great ambitions for the current season, but the end of the 2015/16 is one of the issues that have been bothering both the club and player.
According to Miguel Rico, columnist of the newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the Brazilian star and the coaching staff of Barcelona have reached a consensus; it’s better that Neymar takes part in just one competition in the middle of the year, with preference for the Olympics, something never won by the Seleção in their history. In recent weeks, there have been discussions about the possibility of Barça releasing Neymar to participate in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in August, to help the U23 side to win the unprecedented Gold medal in football. However, there is concern at the club about using Neymar also in the Copa América Centenário in June, which could leave the player with a few weeks of vacation. The report reckons Barça and Neymar have a clear idea that it’s “better to play just one tournament and even better if it’s the Olympics.”
The chance to be in the Olympics at home and participate in a historic event facilitate the decision to choose the competition, although in this case, Neymar gets left out of Barça’s pre-season, the first round of the Spanish Championship and possibly the Spanish Super Cup. But the player would have his vacation in June and July.
The newspaper SPORY says that Dunga, who had promised to talk to coach Luis Enrique, should be in Barcelona in April to discuss the matter. The Barcelona coach does not intend to veto the participation of Neymar in the Olympics, as he’s himself had the experience of winning Gold at home in 1992.
