Corinthians midfielder Elias has worsened his injury, and will be out of action for at least four weeks.
On Monday, the club announced that Elias has a crack on his left fibula, and would need up to a month to recover. He will miss some of the team’s Campeonato Paulista fixtures and at least three matches of the Copa Libertadores. Elias is also expected to be unfit for the next two games of the Brazilian national team, against Uruguay and Paraguay, for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Elias was already feeling uncomfortable with the pain for some time, and on February 4, against Audax Osasco, he complained of discomfort in his left leg after suffering a blow. After almost two weeks away, Elias returned last week and participated in the 1-0 win over Cobresal in Chile. The pain persisted and an MRI on Monday found the severity of the injury. Elias even went to the field on Saturday, but left the training after ten minutes and did not play on Sunday, in the Paulistão against Ferroviária.
