Santos had completed the signing of 21-year-old Argentine attacker Maxi Rolón this week, on a deal until the end of the year.
The player, however, will not wear the number 7 shirt at Santos, which he used during his time at Barcelona B. After the failure in negotiations to sign Robinho, who went to Atlético Mineiro, Santos are saving the number 7 shirt for a marquee signing. The young Argentine is considered as a promising player and will be presented officially next week. Santos board were optimistic about the possible arrival of club idol Robinho to cool down the fans after both Marquinhos Gabriel and Geuvânio left the club. As the deal was not completed, the club’s objective now is to use the same financial proposal – €45,000 and the rest of the salary paid by a company – to engineer the arrival of a big name. Diego Ribas, who came through the youth system at Vila Belmiro and won the Brasileirão in 2002, is a dream for Santos. Currently at Turkish side Fenerbahçe, the midfielder, has a contract until June 2017 and receives more than €220,000 per-month.
