São Paulo may have a couple of foreigners in their defence in 2016, but this doesn’t mean that they’ve signed another player for the position other than Uruguayan Diego Lugano.
In fact, 18-year-old defender Lyanco has accepted an invitation from the Football Association of Serbia and was selected by the U20 team for a friendly against Spain on March 2. Lyanco was born in Vitória, Espírito Santo, but bis grandfather who lives in Franca, São Paulo, has Serbian citizenship. Lyanco turns 19 next Monday, and played 11 times last season, which was his first among the professionals. Lyanco said: “My agents Frederico Moraes and Fábio Mello were already receiving contacts from the country’s federation, with an interest in selecting me. In the correct manner, they brought this case to me and my family, so we took a decision. It enthused me and I accepted right away. I was very happy and proud with this recognition. After all, who knows, I may be playing the major international competitions for Serbia, which would be a big challenge.”
