One of the most valuable players in the squad at São Paulo, 22-year-old defensive midfielder Rodrigo Caio is again the target of a European team.
An English team, whose name was not disclosed, contacted the Brazilian club on the possibility of buying the player, and were even willing to offer a transfer fee of €15 million, but the president Carlos Augusto de Barros e Silva, refused to sell. The news was published by the newspaper Lance! and was then confirmed by Globo Esporte. He said: “A month ago, I was approached by an intermediary representing an English club who would be interested in Rodrigo Caio and could pay € 15 million. Never took it forward because we have no interest, and we think the player is worth more.”
Rodrigo Caio was on the verge of joining both Valencia and Atlético Madrid last summer. The midfielder, who’s as comfortable at central defence, failed his medical examinations at Valencia after the club’s announced a deal. Then the player himself refused the offer to play for Atlético on loan after agent Jorge Mendes managed to take him to a medical there.
