São Paulo have officially announced the appointment of Edgardo Bauza as their new coach until the end of 2016.
The Argentine coach, who had communicated that he wouldn"t be continuing at San Lorenzo, is responsible for ensuring the team"s qualification to the second phase of the Libertadores earlier next year. Bauza, 57, replaces Doriva, brought in days before the resignation of former president Carlos Miguel Aidar and dismissed by the current administration led by Leco who opted for Milton Cruz as interim coach during the final stretch of the Brazilian Championship. Negotiations with Edgardo Bauza was largely confidential, but before defining the new boss, the club"s board had analysed names such as Cuca and Paulo Autuori, spoke with Uruguayan Diego Aguirre [appointed at Atlético Mineiro] and enquired about the possibility of signing Jorge Sampaoli.
Bauza has a successful track record in international competitions. With LDU of Ecuador, he won the Copa Libertadores in 2008 and also the Recopa in 2010. He then won South America"s biggest club competition once again in 2014, with San Lorenzo.
