Juvenal Juvêncio, former president of Brazilian club São Paulo, died early on Thursday, from prostate cancer; he was 81 years old.
Juvenal Juvêncio was the president of São Paulo between 1988 and 1990, and also from 2006 to 2014. The last great battle of Juvenal was helping Carlos Miguel Aidar, chosen by him as his successor, to win the elections and become the club’s new president last year. João Paulo de Jesus Lopes, who was a board member during Juvenal’s tenure, said the former president has great importance in the highlights of São Paulo in recent years. He was quoted in Globo Esporte: “Without a doubt, he is one of the three greatest presidents in the history of São Paulo. Under his command, the team won many titles. Just see that out of the six Brazilian Championships, four were under his command. I can say with great pride that I was next to Juvenal from the first to the last day of his job as head of São Paulo.”
Relatives, friends and club officials attended the funeral in the auditorium of the club’s Morumbi stadium. The body will be taken to Morumbi cemetery for burial on Thursday morning.
